It has been recorded oftentimes, that the number of males in the clan is higher than the number of females. Sometimes, the number can rise to 30 or more individuals in a single clan. In one clan, there are around 5 to 12 individuals. How many Wild Dogs do you see? How many individuals can be seen in one pack? The Wild Dogs often inhabit the rainforest, moist deciduous, dry deciduous, alpine, evergreen, thorn scrub and where not! Although they prefer thick cover for hunting, during the bright shiny days, they can be seen roaming around the meadows, grasslands, steppes or just enjoying their time along the river banks. Same as Leopard, Wild-dogs can survive a wide array of environments. African wild dogs are remarkably bigger, faster and more fearless than Asiatic wild dogs. African wild dogs live in Savannas and dholes in forested areas. They also vary in the habitat each of them prefers. Asiatic wild dogs are reddish with white chest and belly whereas the African wild dogs have blotches on the coat. They differ from each other in coat colour. What is the difference between Asiatic wild dogs and African wild dogs?Īfrican wild dogs or Painted dogs have rounded ears whereas dholes have more pointed ones. These animals are spread over different countries including India, Korea, China, Russia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Java. There are a total of 11 sub-species of Dholes in the world. Their muzzle is thickset and equipped with only 40 teeth while others have 42. Dholes have significantly smaller jaws than their doggie counterparts, unlike true dogs. Whereas, wolves, jackals and foxes are omnivorous. The streamlined teeth and the placement of dentation help dholes to shear meat easier from prey. Because of this, wild dogs are hyper-carnivores than true dogs. Other canids have three molars on each side of their low jaws, and the wild dog has two.
